Best Android Games of August

August is the end of summer and, for many, that means back to school. Whether you are a parent, a student, or somewhere in between the new year of learning is upon us. As you gear up don’t forget about the vital subject of gaming. While not everything you learn while studying gaming is applicable, the same can be said for all the other subjects. I mean, when is the last time you used the quadratic formula or were quizzed on the imagery of a Dicken’s poem? Be honest. So, try out the best Android games of August and you will learn about mythology, test your mind with puzzle and strategy problems, tone your fine motor movements, practice teamwork, discover time travel and more.

5. Idle Mythos

To start, we have Idle Mythos. This RPG is a fire hose of information and fun, so make sure you are prepared.

Collect hundreds of heroes, each with their own style and look. The heroes will vary drastically as they all come from different real-world mythology (think Norse, Greek and Egyptian). They are each divided into elements. If you are thinking of the elements from Avatar: The Last Airbender, I’m afraid to say that only two are included. Instead of Earth and Air, Idle Mythos has chosen Wood, Dark and Light to accompany Water and Fire. Each hero has a class as well. These include: Tank, Warrior, Assassin, Support and Mage. You can see how this might overwhelm some players.

Once you have gotten the basics covered, it is time to grind. Upgrade, battle, move up and repeat. You can play alone or with others. With lots to discover and experience, if you commit to deep diving into this world, Idle Mythos will provide you with hours of engaging and fun gameplay.

4. Brawlhalla

Blue Mammoth Games has developed a cross-platform fighting game that players of Super Smash Brothers will instantly resonate with.

Enter your match and the first thing you will notice is all the empty space. There will platforms dispersed across the board. Most of the time they will be far and in between. The goal is to send your opponent into the dark abyss by knocking them off the platforms. Unlike many other fighting games, you cannot win by dealing damage alone. Though the more damage your opponent takes the more force your attacks have, making it easier to knock them off the platform.

If you are anything like me, you won’t be worried about your opponent’s attacks but your own clumsiness. There have been (a lot of) times while playing Super Smash Brothers where I walked off the edge of the platform, dooming myself to death. It is embarrassing to say the least. Luckily, Brawlhalla has taken this into account. They have incorporated wall jumps and triple jumps for each player.

Overall, Brawlhalla’s goofy art style, timeless concept, and fun gameplay makes for an addictive and enjoyable experience.

3. WinWing

Do you remember when you were a kid and you were often asked: If you could have a superpower, which one would it be? And you remember how almost everyone would pick the ability to fly? Well, if that kid was you, your dreams are about to come true. WinWing is all about flying, but instead of just magically floating into the sky you get to man your own aircraft.

This top down bullet hell shooter allows you to pick from eight planes to fly into battle. You will then face waves after waves of enemies. Each wave of enemies is more difficult than the last. To keep up with the competition you have to upgrade your plane. Add shields, weapons and other features to aid you in battle. Come boss battle, you will be grateful you upgraded when you did.

WinWing is simple, straightforward and a whole lot of fun. No wonder it is on our best Android games of August list. Download today and dogfight your way to victory.

2. Battle Legion

Traplight’s Battle Legion is amass battle simulation mobile game. The cartoon art style makes the battlefield fun to look at, which is not something that is commonly said about battlefields, mind you.

Battle Legion is a mix between idle and real time strategy. Before the battle begins you organize your troops and position them across the battlefield. Once the battle starts you just sit back (or on the edge of your seat) as you watch your strategy play out before you. This is an online game, so it will match you with other real life players. This keeps things interesting and dynamic.

To secure more victories, upgrade and expand your army. Experiment with different strategies and make sure you utilize the many different troops you have. There are even traps and spells to incorporate. All this adds up to a chaotic yet rhythmic battle experience.

1. The Gardens Between

Created by Voxel Agents, The Gardens Between is the number one game on our best Android games of August list. This dream-like puzzle game will suck you in with its intricate and intriguing plot. In sum, after a storm an orb appears to a pair of friends who had sought shelter in a worn down treehouse. These unhappy friends reach out and touch the orb, as one does, which transports them through time to relive moments in their past. The question becomes, will this voyage break their friendship or will it forge an unbreakable bond? That is up to you to find out. Solve puzzles to help the two friends and unlock different memories.

The simplicity of the controls adds to the peaceful yet sullen mood. The goal of the puzzles is to get the orb from point A to point B. There is no time limit or impending doom to worry about, though there is a unique variable to keep in mind: time. As the puzzles get more difficult, you will have to manipulate time to complete the puzzles.

You unlock cutscenes as you progress through the game. These cutscenes dive deeper into the story as you relieve the salient memories of these two friends. The Gardens Between immerses you completely as you play. You can tell that care was put into developing this game as the soundtrack and sound effects complement the art style and unique concepts to enhance your gaming experience. This is one game you do not want to miss.
